Show & Tell Tuesday: Our Love Story

Show and Tell - How we Met

Today for Andrea’s link-up, everyone is sharing their love story/engagement.

Since I originally started this blog as a wedding website for out-of-town guests, I have had our engagement story (by Chris) posted for quiet some time. Click here to read his version.

Today, I am going to share it all through my perspective.

Thanks to FB’s “view friendship” feature, I was able to go back and screen-shot when it all began. Ha!

So as Chris says in his version, our brothers both played little league baseball together. We would see each other every once in a while at a game but never spoke. To be honest, I always thought he was several years older than he was. At the time, I was waiting tables at Texas Roadhouse while Chris was working a summer job at the Utility Department. A guy that worked with me also worked with him at the same time. One day, he came up to me and said, “A buddy that I work with at my other job was asking about you.” I asked the guys name and he replied. I didn’t recognize the name so I didn’t think much of it. Little did I know, he was feeding Chris the same information, just reversed. What a little matchmaker he was!

A week or two later, I got a friend request on FB from the handsome man that I had been seeing at the ball field. I accepted and the next thing I knew, I had a notification that he had “written on my wall.”

Fast forward a week or two.. A nearby town has a week called Handy Fest where they celebrate the life of W.C. Handy. The big event for college kids at that time was on Thursday night at Outback where they have a cover band playing live outside of the restaurant. A group of girlfriends and I all went together as a “girls night out.”

After a few minutes, I noticed Chris dancing with a girl over to the side of the stage (he conveniently left that part out of his story). Later on we made eye contact and formally introduced ourselves and went on our way.. As I was heading to the car later on, I heard someone calling my name, I turned around and it was Chris. We talked for a few minutes more where he asked for my number.

I didn’t hear from him immediately, so I posted on his FB letting him know it was good seeing him. Ha! We had a couple of posts back and forth but nothing really came of it. A few days later and my friend Ashley and I were in line at the Chick-fil-a drive thru before work. I got a text saying “Hey this is Chris” I immediately thought it was a different Chris that I knew and just ignored it. After working through my shift that night, it hit me that it could be the Chris that I wanted it to be. I responded back and later that night he called. We had a good conversation and decided to have dinner that Wednesday after I got out of my night class. That date happened August 6, 2008 and we have been together ever since!

As for our engagement, I had been visiting my girlfriend Jo Mae in Columbus over a weekend. It is a 4 hour drive from my house so that Sunday (April 22, 2012) morning, I literally threw clothes on to head home. I am pretty sure that I didn’t even brush my hair before throwing it up on top of my head. On my way home, Chris kept calling me asking what time I was going to be home. I told him that I wanted to stop at the Target outside of Birmingham (I cant remember what for) but he insisted that I come on home and that we could go have dinner and stop by Target later that night. Honestly, he was annoying me so bad that I told him something like “I will be home when I get home” and hung up. Ha! Poor guy still wanted to marry me after that.

I pulled up to our house, parked, and leisurely went to check the mail. I was surprised that Chris didn’t greet me at the door because he usually does if he is home. I assumed he was annoyed with me for being rude on the phone. As I opened the door from the car port this was my view:

Standing to the left of the table was Chris all dressed up grinning from ear to ear. He dropped to his knee and said some really sweet things and asked me to be his wife. All I could say was “are you serious?” “Is this a joke?!”

I have never been so surprised in my life! 16 months later, we were married on August 3, 2013.

We still have the poster he made under our guest bed. I cherish it to this day.

Phew! What a long post. I still like Chris’s version best. What a lucky girl I am.
